I just bought one of these from a guy that brought it to my garage due to bad valves. And when i opened up the motor is was susprisingly clean at 130k miles. I got new heads for 500 and it works great. The car is perfect no problems yet. My total investment in this car is only $1,000 buying the car and the heads together. I shall say it is the best investment I have ever made. It definately stands up to most luxurious cars. I really love this thing and will be sticking to Saab for my entire life. And may i say its very good on gas mileage for a v6. You can not beat it !

My saab 9-5 is at 160000 miles. after the second turbo replacement @ 145000 i wasn't too happy. they cost $500 each time. Then I thought about it. with the exception of the turbo and water pump and radiator failing this car has had no mechanical failures. @ 160k miles my total repair costs EXCEPT FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE totaled $1500. So, 1500 in repairs over 12 years and 160k works out to about $110/year or less than 1 cent/mile. I would DEFINITELY buy another if the reliability is the same!!!

Your attestation about SAAB 95 SE 1999 are all true to the core. I own one and am a true witness to it's amazing power. In 2011 December in Bavaria Germany. We had what they call 'spiegel' ice - the road was covered with 'ice that you could see ur face on the on the road'. All the cars - Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Toyota, Renault etc were all packed by the roadside. They could drive. With my SAAB 95 SE I drove smoothly on. They all stood and watched with great 'mystification'.
I set out on my SAAB - it's all eyes...even those driving their Porsche stop to see.
Kudos GM for the gift of SAAB and to Sweden for the history behind it. Cheers!

That depends on which engine. The 4-cylinder engines are notorious for sludge problems; I wouldn't buy a used one without having my mechanic give it the once-over first. For the V6, there is an expensive major service due at 120K.

High-mileage issues that have bit me lately include broken motor mounts, a broken anti-sway bar, a leak in the oil cooler causing oil contamination of the coolant and subsequent hose failures (an expensive fix given the oil cooler's location), and failure of the heated seats due to broken wires. It's important to be sure the suspension components are in good shape, or the car will eat tires... And as it requires V-rated tires, that gets expensive.

Now, what happens at 110K... the used Saab I'm wanting to buy doesn't seem have too many local repair shops I can go to? And I don't see old Saabs on the road? Granted, Califronia, but why so few Saabs? Looks like this one was maintenced regularly (checked carfax). I want it. Should I take it? What do I need to look at soecifically?
